Smash Burgers
Ingredients
- 1 lb high-quality ground beef 80/20 mix for optimum juiciness
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 4 slices of cheese American cheddar, or Swiss work well
- 4 soft hamburger buns preferably potato rolls
- Toppings: lettuce tomato onions, pickles, condiments
Instructions
Preheat the Griddle
- Heat a griddle or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. The surface should be hot enough to sizzle upon contact with the meat.
Form the Patties
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and gently roll them into loose balls. Do not overwork the meat to ensure a tender burger.
Smash the Patties

Prepare the Buns
- Toast the hamburger buns on the griddle until lightly crisp.
Assemble the Burger
- Place the cheesy patty on the bottom bun, then layer with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and your favorite condiments.
Serve and Enjoy
- Enjoy your homemade smash burger hot off the griddle, paired with fries or your favorite side.
